Self Portrait
For my summative project I decided to do one image instead of two. The photo shows two sides of myself in one shot. On the left you have a “zombie” me and on the right you have the everyday me. After I shot the picture, I imported the photo into Lightroom and added a linear gradient to make one side of my face darker than the other. From there I exported it into Photoshop where I added the cracked effect on my face. After that I sent it back into Lightroom to boost the clarity and contrast on the left side and smooth out the right, then to finish it up I used Photoshop to roughen up the edges and saved it as a PNG. The right side of my face shows my normal, “serious” side that most people see everyday at school but also shows a little bit of hope through the slight smile starting to appear in the corner of my lips. The other side of the picture shows the side of me that has given up, my face is starting to fall apart, I have massive bags around my eyes, my skin looks dry and dead. The left side almost looks like a zombie, representing how it feels being a teenager trying to figure out life. The reason I chose this theme was because it can be done with just one photo instead of combining two, the bags and shadows around my eyes my look photoshopped in but are actually that strong with just a little bit extra contrast. The concept of not adding these features in post adds a lot of value to the picture because it means the image is more real, meaningful, accurate and true.
