Grade 11 Tech. Design
Summative Assignment:
Our summative assignment was a Dream, Design, Build Project. The idea is simple, dream something up, design it and build it in SolidWorks. I chose to build a Luxury Diesel-Electric Inter-City High-Speed Express Train. In the past I have watched documentaries about millionaires that own train coaches and travel cross country being towed by commuter trains. The idea has always appealed to me but rather than building just a few coaches I wanted to try building the whole train. I designed the train to be a 5 car manifest with a cab and prime mover at either end and have drive trucks rather than a full locomotive. This layout allowed for more space inside the train and increases acceleration and top speed. The interiors of the coaches comprised of a dining car, a lounge/theater car, and a "sleeper" car for bedrooms. I chose to put the kitchen and crew quarters in the extra half coaches behind the prime mover since the space is much smaller and the ride may suffer from vibrations when running on diesel power, making the space less desirable for the guests. While designing the coaches I decided to make wrap around windows that curve up into the roof of the coach. This design will allow more light into the coaches, improve the view, and allow you to see the stars as you dash across the peaceful midnight countryside at 140 MPH (225 KPH).
Alternative Building Methods: Shipping Container House
A mid sized portable, and temporary shipping container house with multiple configuration options. 3 large windows are concealed by functioning container doors to protect them. The entrance only has one large door that opens, the other is fixed and becomes a wall, behind the door that opens is a sliding glass door. The idea of the doors being opened is that if the container needs to be moved, abandon in extreme weather, or left for long periods of time you can secure the container without having to worry about animals, weather, and other issues. This container home also has seal-able skylights (similar to the doors) and 6 solar panels to support low wattage off-grid needs.
Alternative Energy Production Methods: Wind Turbine
An extension to the house systems unit, we researched an alternative method of generating power and created it in SolidWorks
House Science Unit
A unit based around how houses and structures work. We built a basic 30'x40' house from the ground up using modern building codes and techniques.
ROG Battle-station Room
This project is an intro into the house sciences unit, we are required to design a room from a house. I chose to design my dream PC gaming room using some of my personal favorite brands as rough outlines for what items I wanted in the room. below you will find a Part View animation, a low quality 720p rendered animation, and high quality 1080p renders containing various aspects of the room.
Preview Animation-
720p Rendered animation
1080p Final Renders-
Dice
This project was an intro into SolidWorks using the revole cut tool to make the holes.
Shell Tool Mugs
This assignment was to show how to use the shell and sweep tools as well as assigning a part a material to change the look in the render.
Revolve Tool Mug
A simple mug built using the revolve tool
